Summer May 1995, I was 14 years old and a month where our lives were about to be turned upside down.
I have faced cancer three times. 1995, 1998 and 2001. As a result of this I had to have a full amputation of my right leg. The treatment I received and my long journey with this disease has made me who I am today. After winning from cancer still I needed to accept my toughest and biggest obstacle in life. After years of battling I have been given the all clear from cancer and have I found a way to cope with my invisible obstacle the syndrome of tourette.
Don’t Hide your obstacle. Face them. Accept help and you will beat your obstacles.- Michael-Robbert Brans
I am the best version of myself. I am a entrepreneur at Tough Ground CrossFit and Obstacle training, CrossFit L1 trainer, OCR coach, proud father of a little girl and husband and I motivated others to beat there own obstacles by climbing obstacles. I’m always looking for new challenges. I competed in a dozens of obstacle runs. I climbed up and down the highest and biggest mountain in Scotland the Ben Nevis in less than 10 hours. Participated in the dutch version of Ninja Warrior as the first adaptive competitor. Completed a Guinness World Record for the fastest man on crutches and 1 leg on the 5 kilometers (38.40) and now I am working on the half marathon on the Chinese wall in 2019.
If Someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it? Say yes, then learn how to do it later. – Richard Branson.
I have been trying to find sports that are suitable for me for a long time. I eventually found this in obstacle course running and Crossfit. For those who are unaware of obstacle running; it involves persuading a bunch of idiots to crawl through mud and clammer over obstacles on their day off. Yep, I am one of those idiots, the one legged version. The audition for the first series of the Dutch version of ‘Ninja Warrior’ was a huge compliment for me as my obstacle abilities have been recognised. It makes me more determined than ever to succeed. And Crossfit? That is the second best thing that ever happend to me. I love the power, challenge and competition as an adaptive crossfitter.
Since my participation in obstacle course racing and Crossfit, I have committed myself to motivated others to beat there obstacles. I am a proud member of the Dutch adaptive Athlete team; ‘The Dutch Adaptives‘ who pride themselves on demonstrating strength and perseverance while facing obstacles. With hard work there are ‘No limits’. Kind regards! See me in action? Check my Youtube
